Sleeping Beauty at the Compass Theatre in Ickenham – Christmas is definitely here!

This weekend we were back at the Compass Theatre, Ickenham’s hidden gem, for our family’s traditional festive treat. We discovered this Theatre a few years ago and became its greatest fans.

It’s a lovely cosy community theatre near Ickenham Tube with its own car park and excellent disabled and baby changing facilities. The team there are mainly volunteers and the atmosphere is always super friendly and relaxed. There are quite a few great local pubs in the area to visit after the show.

Now, the panto… This year we were treated to a fantastic performance of Sleeping Beauty, courtesy of DK ProDuKtions in partnership with the Hillingdon Council.

Once upon a time friends and family gather to celebrate the birth of the King and Queen’s daughter, but not everyone is in the mood for celebrating. The Wicked Fairy, that the King and Queen forgot to invite, arrives with a terrible curse to announce – one day the Princess will prick her finger on a magic spinning wheel and fall into a deep sleep for a hundred years!

And once again, we were not disappointed – great cast, musical staging and banter – the whole production had all the right elements of family pantomime experience and kept us all entertained throughout the show.

It was my 2 year old’s first panto and I am glad we chose the Compass Theatre for his first experience. He was mesmerised by the Wicked Fairy (a great villain but not too scary), laughed at the Royal Nanny’s and Chester(or was it Leicester?)-The-Court-Jester’s jokes and sang along with the charming Princess Beauty.

They always include the latest pop songs allowing the kids to sing along adding to the whole magical experience. Let it go made my 6 year old sing her little heart out and glow with happiness all evening – nice touch, guys!

Another highlight for her was the bit after the show where they involve the audience getting everyone up on their feet for a silly dance and sing-a-long (oh yes we did!).

We felt it wasn’t as good as their Aladdin last year but it is still a fantastic value-for-money Christmas treat for the whole family, and we will most definitely come back next year.

The show is on until 4th January. We are giving away a family ticket on Mumsnet Harrow main website – click here to enter the competition.
