Chester Tuffnut at Polka Theatre in Wimbledon

Last weekend we ventured out to the beautiful Polka Theatre in Wimbledon for ‘Chester Tuffnut’, a Gomito and Polka Theatre co-production for 2-5 year olds.

Chester Tuffnut

This was our first time at Polka and what a gem it turned out to be!  You are greeted by a welcoming and friendly team, there are toys in the foyer, including rocking horses, and the café looked decent although you are not allowed to take any food or drink inside the studio.

The story is about a cheeky, adventure-loving treemole Chester and his woodland friends.

The set was beautifully done, the puppeteers were full of energy and put their hearts and soul into the performance.   I found the production was a teeny bit drawn out and felt they could have done more with the story. The message is that friendships and adventures are important but I am not sure the little ones got it. Most toddlers seemed a bit restless towards the end.

Our favourite part was the bit after the show when the children could interact with the characters. My 3 year old DS loved it when the bat landed on his head!

All in all, we had a great Saturday afternoon but £12 per ticket for a 35 minute play (plus few minutes after the show) did seem a tad expensive. However, we are glad we have discovered this magical theatre and would definitely come back.

The show runs until 14th August. Click here for performance times and bookings.
